Neck Acne
Although some may think that this is a very unusual place to have acne, neck acne is relatively common. Due to the fact that the skin on the neck is thicker than other places on the body, this type of acne is very difficult to be successfully and permanently treated. This acne will develop just like acne anywhere else on the body but tends to be a bit more painful and harder to treat; treatment is possible, though.
Neck acne is a lot like the acne that you will find on your back. It is seen more predominantly in males than females but there are women who are affected by this condition. When the pores in your neck get clogged up then the normal function of draining bacteria and skin oil is obstructed. As these cannot be released they back up and cause a swollen red area that sometimes will burst and which contains pus. Anything that rubs against your neck will aggravate your acne. How to Take Care of Your Neck So As Not to Aggravate the Acne
• Reduce the amount of shirts with collars or crew neck type shirts that you wear.
• When you must wear these shirts opt for those that are made from 100% cotton as these won’t be that irritating.
• I know it is tempting like with any other type of acne to pick and try to burst and all of that, but refrain from doing this as it only makes matter worse.
• Be aware of when your neck becomes irritated and what irritates it at that time so you know what to avoid.
How to Take Care of Your Neck Acne
How you take care of your acne depends on how severe the case is. The following portion will tell you how to deal with each level of your acne
• For a Light to moderate case you can use a cleaning solution that as around 10% glycolic acid.
• For a moderate to severe case you can do one of two things. Use solutions that contain 10% glycolic acid in combination with 2.5% benzoyl peroxide. You can also use what is called accutane but you should use this with caution as it does present some side effects and is not proven to work over a long period of time. So choose wisely.
If you have acne on your neck it may be harder to treat than other acne and it may be easier to flair especially if you are a guy and work at a job that requires you to wear collared shirts. You can lessen the irritation by wearing 100% cotton shirts and washing the area with the specified cleaning solution based on the severity of the acne that you have.
