Mild Acne
There are three different types of acne; mild, moderate and severe but the general definition for the word acne is irritation and sometimes swelling of the sebaceous glands and the hair follicles of the skin. Every person is predisposed to acne as it has many factors that can cause it but some persons only experience mild acne.
To determine the type of acne that one has a grading system is used. For the type of acne that we are talking about here the description is that there are no more than 36 comedones or papules and no permanent lesions on ones skin. This type of acne shows up in anyone from birth to age 100 or more and it comes not only on the face but can also be on the arms, the back and thighs just to name a few places.
How to Take Care of your Mild Acne
You can use over the counter acne treatments that are applied to the surface of the affected skin. You will need to wash the affected area with a gentle can wash but do not over wash, just simply wipe the cleaning agent onto your skin with your hands or a soft washcloth and rinse away with room temperature water.
After cleansing the area you can now do one of two things; you can apply an acne cream to the spots where the acne is evident or you can apply the cream to the entire area. If the container does not specify how often to apply this treatment, you can do it twice per day. If you notice your skin getting dry this is just the normal reaction. If it starts to peel then you will need to use a light moisturizer, it is best if you use one that is designed for persons with acne and you will more than likely be able to find one that is made by the same company that makes your acne cream.
You may also want to choose a moisturizer that has sunscreen especially if it for your face as, when your skin peels it is more susceptible to damage from the rays of the sun. Remember you won’t see results right away so don’t panic; it sometimes will take a couple weeks and as long as months. If you are using a certain product for a couple of months and cannot see any improvements then you should visit a dermatologist.
What are Some of the Medications That Treat Mild Acne?
The first medication that everyone is familiar with are washes that are antiseptic, these come in body washes as well as face washes and usually contain salicylic acid. This aids in getting rid of acne by unclogging the pores. Other medications come in the form of creams and contain the active ingredient benzoyl peroxide.
There are other creams that have as their primary ingredient hydrogen peroxide and these are referred to as stabilizing creams. There are also some medications that have in addition to the above ingredients erythromycin, azelaic acid and clindamycin. Creams with these additions help to fight against any possible antibiotic infections that may occur just by virtue of having these ingredients. It is the other ingredients though that deals with the acne itself.
